Antwerpen

Last week we have been in Antwerpen for a few days. Eventually we had time to visit the Zoo. And I must say: It's a nice Zoo. Good environments for the animals, clean, well maintained. It was not so busy, so we had plenty of opportunities to see everything. Especially because the weather was so nice!!! Sunny, warm, dry!! Special for a walk in the Zoo.
There was an interesting training of the seals!! Lots of birds, as well IN cages, as outside!!! :-) The camels were enjoying the sun, and the elephants were due to come inside.
So we had the pleasure that we could watch the elephants to have a bath. Especially the young elephant (almost 2 years old), was enjoying this bath extremely. Lay down on the floor, and let the water wash all over him (her?). Finally a bath with sawdust to complete it.
A wonderful show, just additionally to the zoo!!
Birds were courting as well, and bathing. It was so nice to see one of the red Holy Ibises having a water bath, while all the water was sparkling around him.
In the same time the trees were blossoming exuberant. The tender white blossom was contrasting to the sky. I enjoyed it very much.
The other day we had long walks in the "Lei's" the streets of Antwerpen.
It is a hospitable city, with friendly people. The buildings are luxurious. Built in a time of wealth. Even when you walk through the shopping streets, it is very advisable to look op to the facades of the buildings. A lot of decoration, gold, etc. Personally I like one of the balconies in the shape of a ship. Probably the builder of this house was also a ship-owner.
Actually I am surprised about the huge amount of restaurants, pubs, cafes, etc. There are so many places where you can eat. Restaurants from so many different nationalities. I suppose you can eat the year around in a different restaurant!! :-)
So I can advise everybody to have a stroll in Antwerpen. Take your time. Enjoy the people, the buildings, and don't forget the art, museums and churches!!
